Potential Triangle South Youth Council Member

Dear Potential Youth Council Member,

The Triangle South Workforce Development Board is recruiting members to serve on the Triangle South Youth Council in Chatham, Harnett, Lee, and Sampson counties. The Triangle South Workforce Development board increases employment rates, retention and earnings of participants, and increase occupational skill attainment by participants, and as a result, improves the quality of the workforce. The local, business-led boards acting as "Board of Directors," focus on strategic planning, policy development and oversight of the local workforce investment system.

The Youth Council is a subgroup of the Workforce Development Board. They are responsible for coordinating youth activities within the Local Area, developing portions of the local plan which is related to eligible youth, as well as carrying out other duties as authorized by the chairperson of the Workforce Development Board.

As a Youth Council member, you would be ask to become involved by attending quarterly meetings located in Lillington, NC at Central Carolina Community College's Harnett County Campus. This is a central location for the four-county Local Area.

We are seeking individuals who are concerned about the youth in our communities. As a subgroup of the Workforce Development Board, the Youth Council shall include:

  1. Members of the Workforce Development Board such as educators, employers, and representative of human service agencies, who have a special interest or expertise in youth policy;
  2. Members who represent service agencies such as Juvenile Justice and local law enforcement agencies;
  3. Members who represent local Public Housing Authorities;
  4. Individuals, including former participants and members, who represent organizations, that have experience relating to youth activities;
  5. The Youth Council may include other individuals, who the chairperson of the Workforce Development Board determines appropriate.

We are asking that you take this great experience by the hand to help our youth by being apart of the Triangle South Youth Council. All applications are DUE in my office by JULY 19, 2010.
